MARKET REPORTS.
GRAIN MARKET. Messrs H. Matson and Co., associated with the National Mortgage and Agency Company of New Zealand, Limited, report for the week ending February 9th, 1891 :— Nothing of importance has transpired during the week calling for special comment. With fairly good weather, farmers have been enabled to push forward with harvesting 'operations, and a large proportion of grain must now be safely secured. Prices for the new grain are not yet established, nor has any business of importance taken place. Wheat—The market for old wheat is easier, and points to a further drop in price. Quotations are—Tuscan, 3s 6d to 3s 7d; pearl, 3s sd; Hunter's, 3s 3d to 3s 4d. The new wheat will open at? less money, but prices so far are not quotable. Oats—Milling are at Is 8d to Is 9d; short feed, Is 7d; ordinary feed, Is 6d. Outside markets do not leave a margin of profit on these prices, and we hardly expect to see them maintained. * Barley—Good to prime malting is likely to have a firm inquiry, owing to there being a possibility of considerable quantities of thin quality. Best samples should command 3s 3d to 3s 6d; medium, 2a 9d to 3s; feed, Is 8d to 2*. Grass Seeds— Ryegrass has been offering a little more freely, and selling at prices ranging from 3s 6d to 4s 6d for farmers'samples. Cocksfoot is not offering yet, but prices talked of as being offered and asked range from 4d to sd. Dairy Produce — The butter market having become much weaker in London will cause shippers to restrict their operations, and prices may ease. Cheese remains firm. Quotations —Butter 6d to 7d, Cheese 4d. Peas—Bine Prussians are now receiving attention at about 3s 3d. Onions—Sales are being made at £4 to £3 for autumn onions. Quotations f.0.b., sacks extra. Auction Sales—The first of the season will shortly be announced. During the week we have disposed of several parcels of grain privately, and are now receiving consignments for storage and sale during any period of the year.
