THE HOLIDAY.
Anniversary Day was celebrated at Temuka in the customary way,, except that the stock sale was held, and as a consequence the town did not present its usual holiday appearance. The Sunday schools in connection witn the several churches held their annual picnics; St, Saviour's at Winchester, the Presbyterians in the Park, and the Wosleyans at the beach. The children in eacb instance mustered in force, and apparently enjoyed themselves to the~ utmost. There were numerous private picnics. Tbe Volunteers completed class urine, and an angling competition took place, besides minor amusements.
Tuesday was observed as a close holiday at Geraldine, none ot the business places opening. A number of picnic parties visited the bush while others lerfc the town for attractions elsewhere. Tbe annual picnic of the choir and Sabbath School of tbe Presbyterian Church was held at Homewood, the property of Mr T. Every, and was a decided success. -The children, with their parents aud friends, assembled at the -church about nine o'clock and proceeded in drags and other vehicles to the rendezvous, which wan a beautiful spot on the edge of a bush, commanding a splendid view. Before leaving for home three cheers were given for Mr and Mrs Every, and for all those who had assisted in making the picnic the success it was.
