At Newtown Park this afternoon the Poneke and Wellington Football Clubs met in the heat for the championship. The ground was very heavy, and light rain fell nearly all the afcernoou. The Ponekes were the favorites, and won by 6 points (a goal from a try and 3 tries) to nil. At the Basin Reserve this afternoon tbe Athletic Football Club's Half mile Handicap was won by J. Mills (45yds), L. Otway (30yds) being second. AUCKLAND, July 6. The proposed football match between Auckland aud Tauranga representatives had to be postponed indefinitely, owing to the fact that the steamer which was to bring the players from Tauranga did not leave that port in time. TIMARU, July 6. The Christchurch High School beat the Timaru High School by a goal and 2 tries to nil. L&uibie got the goal from a free kick. Christchurch was the heavier team. It was a wet day for the game.

The Temuka Football Club and the Darktown Club (Temuka) have agreed to join forces, and the combined clubs will henceforth be called the Temuka Football Club. Mr W. Dyson, formerly captain of Darktown, has been unanimously elected captain of the new Club. The finances have been placed on a satisfactory footing, and the gifts of trophies by the Presideut, Mr J. T. M. Hayhurst, and Mr J. L. Flint, who has long been the mainstay of the Club, will do much to stimulate members during the remainder of the season.
