ROAD BOARD ELECTIONS.
MALVERN. The annual meeting of ratepayers was held at the Road Board office, Kowai Pass, on the 2nd inst. The attendance was very large. On the reading of the report a long discussion ensued..
Mr Rutted ge severely criticised the work of the Board and the manner in which the aocounts wore kept.
Mr T Wallace quite agreed with Mr Rutledge respecting the system of keeping accounts, which he considered faulty.
Mr Walls complained tbat, after' residing in the district eleven years, he was unable now to drive a trap to hia house, and one of the members of the Board was well acquainted with that part of the road. Several ratepayers expressed their opinions pretty freely on the Board's inaction. Mr R. Myhill considered that tho new Board should award him some compensation for turning a watercourse through his fields. They had dug below the natural bed of the creek and turned the whole of the water on to his land.
Mr John Rutledge had known the creek for many years, and he considered that adequate compensation should be paid. After some remarks by Messrs Atkinson, Joyce, Captain Parker, &0., the report was adopted. The election of the Board then proceeded, and the gentlemen elected were—Messrs Joyce, Mcfiraith, Bedfern, Rutherford, and T. Wallace.
The chairman of-the new Board is Mr Rtdfern. .
