RANGIORA BOROUGH COUNCIL.

The fortnightly meeting of this Council for despatch of ordinary jntsujeas waa -eson Friday evening. Present—The Mayor, Mr Blackett, Crs. Thorne, Cone, Burt. Robinson. was resolved that the town clerk write to Mr Pulton, asking him if he would dedicate to the Hoard th* land required through his section, aud if tho neighbors would also assist m forming the road. On the moticn of Cr, Good, seconded by Cr. Thorne, it vr«s resolved that the surveyor's report be adopted. It was decided that the clerk give notice of tho registration of do.?s. Cr. Boyd asked if tho surveyor was proceeding with the survey. Cr. RcbinRon stated it was Wing on with. Mr S. Wilson, who attended. a*kel for an explanation of tho complaint against a nuisance on his premises. Tha Mayor said a tbo complaint referred to a boiling-down establishment, offensive pigstye, and dirty closet. Mr Wilson stated the boiling-down was done away with. The town clerk, who had inspected tho place, reported that the closet was very filthy, and must be removed or cleaned and thoroughly deodorised, and the boiling-down of fat was still said to be offensive to Mr Scott and family. He was at tho premises that day, when tho boiling-down place was quite clean. Mr Wilson said the only offensive smell was the fatty smell. Cr. Robinson considered there was an offensive smell there one d.y, Cr. Cone bad been at the premisesand smelt nothing offensive, except the parsons who had fancy noses. Cr. Robinson—There were no fancy, noses when he was there. The Mayor pointed put that if there was a nuisance it must be put a stop to. Cr. Johnston said there could be no ' doubt that a nuisance existed, and sometime ago the Rev. W. Canuell said he could hardly live alongside it. Cr. Boyd- said as the complaint was against the closets and styes, they ought to be removed. The town clerk said they would have to be removed and deodorised. Mr Wilson pointed out that Mr Scott's closet was close against his fence. Cr. Good moved, Cr. Burt seconded—" That Mr Wilson receive notice to clean hi_ stye and closet forthwith." Carried. The Council's balance at the Bank was reported to bo £362 2s 2d. Accounts amounting to £63 4s Id were passed. Cr. Good moved, Cr. Cone seconded —" That a special meeting be hold on Friday week to consider the adoption of the bylaws." Carried. Cr. Cone was proceeding to address the Council in reference to the adjustment cf accounts between tbe Marideville Read Board and the Council, when it was resolved that the Council should consider that question in committee of the whole. Cr. White drew attention to the necessity for forming tho roads from Darkey Day's to the drain road, »ud past Mr Good's cottage. The Major thoaght these roads were private, and not the full width. Cr. Thorne considered if there was a disposition to do so the roads could be made. Cr. Burt was favorable to making these roads. Cr. White moved, and it was seconded — " That tenders be invited for forming and opening the roads referred to." Cr. Cone pointed out there was a road well formed near to one of them. Cr. Boyd opposed the forming of the roads, which appeared to ba simply for improving private property, and particularly Cr. Good's. -Cr. Good—Not mine alone. Cr. Boyd moved as an amendment—" That the roads bo left in the present state." It was finally agreed to form one of the streets near Mrs Horrell's. Cr. Thorne —What's >the name of it? Cr. John-ton —Call a special meeting to name it. Cr. Thorne suggested that tha Government be written to, asking them to make a cattle crush pen and stage for loading cattle, instead of using the present passenger platform. The motion was agreed to. Cr. Burt moved, and Cr. Robinson seconded —" That the Council go into committee to consider the letter received from the Mandeville Road Board in referenca to tho costs of the Bassingthwaite case." The Council then went into committee of the whole, and, on resuming, adjourned ■
