CATHEDRAL SQUARE.
TO THE EDITOR OP THE PRESS. Sib, —Please allow mc to say a few words in reference to the asphalting the west side of Cathedral square. After doing one side surely some other locality might be thought of. The public has a right to have the greatest amount of accommodation that can be had for their money; not one path running parallel with another (when so many places are without), but one extending beyond the other. The long-neglected Market Square, for in-
stance, ie a standing and just cause of complaint by all living beyond, on and around it. The unfortunate pedestrians who have to scramble over that space hctweeu Messrs Cook and Ko's'a corner and Victoria bridge, would feel truly grateful, if the extern iou could be brought in that direction. As to the straightening the west side of Cathedral Square (our rates are rising two pence yearly), one Council makes it straight, another make 3it bend, and a third is trying to make it straight again ; and a fourth, no distant date; having a taste for the line of beauty, will go in for the curve anain. ami for this work and its like, up goes our rate another two pence. Apologising for trespass, ice, Yours truly, J. Atkiksov. Whatlcy Road, Christchurch, April 9, 1873.
