EYRETON.
The usual meeting of the Board was held on December 4, there being present Messrs Dixon (chairman), Coutts, Weir, Bradley, and Patterson. The minutes, the Surveyor's report, and the Rate Collector's report were read. A circular from the Secretary for Public Works was read, asking for returns showing the amount raised by the Board from local sources ; also the estimated income of next year to June 30. The Clerk was authorised to furnish the same. The Surveyor was directed to ascertain the quantity of land required for a road near the side of the river at the Waimakariri bridge, and the Chairman undertook to see the persons interested as to the amount they would contribute to the purchase of the same. Mr Stevenson objected to its being taken through land in his occupation, unless £5 was paid to him as compensation. It was resolved to pay him the £5 upon a proper conveyance being executed. Tenders were then opened; and accepted for forming eighty chains of the Bridge road, forming road near McLeod's on Kaiapoi Island, and clearing Englefield drain. It was resolvedthat Clist'sroad be shingled with fifteen yards of metal to the chain. Mr Patterson reported that he had an offer made to shingle the Oxford tramroad, from the part already done to Musseu's corner, at Is per yard. Thc Board decided that he should accept the offer on their behalf. It was resolved to hold the election on January 2ud, and the next meeting of the Board to the present one on the same day. Mr DIXON offered half-an-acre of land for a Road Board Office at Eyreton which was accepted. The Surveyor was directed to prepare plans and specifications, and invite tenders for the new Board office to be sent in before next meeting ; also, for a stable for horses. After passing accounts for payment, the meeting then adjourned till January 2, at 10 a.m.
