RO AD BOARDS.
AVON. The usual meeting of the Road Board took place on Tuesday, the 7th instant. Present-The Chairman (Mr J. Abbott), and Messrs. Lame, Homer, and Patchett. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. ~ * v i The Chairman reported that he had received since the last meeting £11 7s 4£d, and that the balance at the Bank was £162 8s sd. That accounts passed last meeting had been paid, and vouchers signed for them. Also other matters. The report was considered. A letter was read from the Riccarton Road Board in reference to opening the road between sections 6 and 7. After consideration the Board decided that two of its members, viz Messrs. Lame and Patchett, should inspect the locality, and report next meeting thereon. ~ , With regard to Briggs and others request to make a road, it was decided to defer the matter for want of funds. A. petition from Messrs Dickenson nnd others was read, asking the Board to cut a drain and put in a culvert on the road runnin" through sections 136 and 324. Its consideration was deferred for the present. A letter from Messrs Joynt and Thomas was read about an account.
A letter from Mr Philpot, a memberof ~th Board, was Tead, stating through illness he would be unable to attend the meeting that day. The contractor for metalling Winter's road requested the Board to allow a different arrangement in carrying out his contract, as a portion of the road was very swampy, and he could not cart over it. He was informed that 75 per cent, on the completed portion of the work wonld be paid him, and as soon as the partof the road complained of was fit he undertakes to complete the contract when called upon to do so. Mr Holt saw the Board about clearing the branch drain from Papanui to the main drain. It was decided that those interested must contribute towards the cost of the work. The Clerk was directed to ascertain what they were willing to give, and also report generally on the drain. Mr Snell saw the Board with relation to ! his contract. It was decided that any fuather metal required for the North road be finished under his contract. Mr Hanxan asked the Board to allow him the balance of his contract for clearing drain through sectious 411 and 197. It was decided to pay it. The Clerk was directed to provide a culvert for Mills' road ; also, do a further distance of metalling on Daniels' road. Accounts, to the amount of £175 18s 2d. were passed and ordered to be paid. The Board then adjourned till the first Tuesday in December.
