Correction Of Story From Auckland

In an Auckland newspaper circulating in the Bay of Plenty, it was stated in reference to the Bay of Plenty Port inquiry, that the Whakatane Harbour Board had telegraphed the Minister of Works, Mr Goosman stating that “ . . . reports held by the Ministry of Works should be made available to the Board.”

Commenting on the statement the Chairman, Mr W. R. Boon, said that this was not part of the Board’s resolution. The telegram sent to the Minister (which was corectly reported in the Bay of Plenty Beacon) had stated clearly that the Committee of Inqury “should be bound to make its finding solely on the evidence presented to it in open court, and not on any Departmental or other reports not disclosed to all parties.” There was no suggestion added Mr Boon that his board wished to have made available to it any report that was not available to all parties concerned in the inquiry.
