Ohope Branch Of Plunket Society
The Ohope Branch of the Plunket Society Sub-Branch held a successful bring and buy on Saturday, over £23 being raised by the sale of cakes, sweets and produce. A baby competition was judged by Mrs Pax Collins, whose task was difficult, as all the babies were most attractive and healthy. The winning babies were Alison Steele and Stewart Thompson. Prizes were donated by Mrs T. Taylor. The small attendance of mothers /as disappointing indeed. Most of the buyers were either holidaymakers or newcomers to Ohope. As the weather was perfect, it was confidently expected that all the young mothers of the beach would support the committee and bring their babies. This has been a very heavy year for the committee, which was obliged'to raise £3O towards purchase of a car for the nurse. It will be necessary to hold another bring and buy soon to raise funds to cover the current year’s expenses, and it is hoped that will be a better attendance of jnothers. It was an amusing coincidence that both the chairman and the secretary were competition prize winners. Both, however, offered their prizes for re-drawing, the lucky winners being Miss L. L. Smith and Mrs Brough. Mrs G. Mahy also won a prize.
