HOSPITAL VISITED
XMAS PRESENTS FOR CHILDREN
FIRE BRIGADE’S GESTURE
There was considerable excitement in the Whakatane' Hospital’s Children’s wards last Monday evening, when the whole of the local Fife Brigade arrived per reel, and in all the glory of smart dress uniforms and shining brass helmets, to distribute Christmas gifts to the children.
The Matron (Miss Runciman) met the Firemen and escorted them from bed to bed. To say that the children were thrilled would be putting it mildly. In a sort of bewildered joy they received the gifts and mumbled their thanks. In the words of one Fireman, the Brigade members got just as much ‘kick’ out of the event as the children themselves, and by common consent the practice will be made an annual one in future.
