RED CROSS CAMPAIGN

FRIDAY NIGHT'S EFFORT

OPEN AIR CONCERT

Undeterred by the blackout a concert party invaded the Strand on Friday evening to entertain the public with musical items: and made strong and very successful efforts to relieve those in the streets of any small, or even large, change possible. Although handicapped by the lack of footlights and' spotlights the party, attired in a variety of costumes,' made up for this deficiency by making themselves very plainly heard through a loud speaker system.

A piano was mounted 011 the motor lorry, which represented the platform, and from 7 p.m. until after 9 o'clock a variety of items and banter issued from the stand near the Regent Theatre. Sales of Mystery Parcels, a collection of pennies and other methods proved to swell the Red Cross funds to a large extent at the same time keeping the large audience in jovial mood.

EFFORT SUCCESSFUL

RESULTS EXCEED EXPECTATIONS Far exceeding the expectations the Red Cross sale of Mystery Parcels proved an outstanding success, an approximate estimate being thai 2000 parcels were sold. The sales were commenced or Thursday continued throughout Friday to conclude on Saturday morning. The original supply of printed tickets was soon disposed of and a rush order of extra tickets had to be obtained to cope with the demand.
