WOMEN’S INSTITUTES
DEMONSTRATION OF HAT MAKING AT APATA
(Times Correspondent)
The Apata Women’s Institute held their December meeting at the home of Mrs Whitehead of Apata. All members wore an emblem or picture representing a Christmas Carol, and much amusement was caused by attempts to find appropriate titles. The roll call "Soap for England” was fully responded to, and it was also decided to use funds raised by card evenings to send a further parcel to the link in England.
A very interesting demonstration of hat making from cellophane was given by Mrs R. Swaine. Competition results were as follows; Three pl'eces of shortbread, Mrs F. W. Ellery L Mrs Morrison 2; best gladioli, Mrs L. Ellery 1, Mrs Brown 2: best bloom, Mrs Svcnson 1, Mrs W. F. McClinchie 2.
