CHRISTMAS TREE AT OROPI
Happy expectant youngsters with (heir parents and friends, filled the Oropi hall on a recent evening to greet Father Christmas on his annual visit to the district.
Games organised by the head teacher, Mr H. E. Monk, and by the assistant teacher. Miss Carson, were much enjoyed by both participants and the audience. Mr Monk explained that as Father Christmas’s visit had been postponed last year on account of the poliomyelitis epidemic lie had decided to let the children have a free evening and any entertainment by the pupils was purely voluntary. A little play and song “Cowboys’ Heaven” by Maud Brown. Heather Regem. Bervl Weightman and Margaret Grayling, was much appreciated and an encore “Dear Little Shamrock” included Shirley Forsyth. The appearance of Santa Claus was greeted with great excitement by the children and a huge Christmas Tree, which had been the cynosure 'of all eyes, was soon denuded of its gifts. The chairman of the School Committee, Mr R. Hamilton, thanked those present for helping to make the evening such a success, and the other members of the committee for their co-operation during the year. He also congratulated the teachers on theh progress made during the year.
