School Christmas Parties
Tauriko, Oropi And Pa hoi a Children Entertain Parents

Pre-Christmas parties have provided appropriate entertainment for the children of many district schools. At Tauriko, Oropi and Pahoia, to mention only a few, Father Christmas has been welcomed on his annual round of the Tauranga district.
. The Tauriko Settlers’ Hall was filled to capacity when the school held its annual Christmas Party. Organised by the teachers, Miss M. D. Tudehope and Miss S. HyltonJones, assisted by the School Committee and Mr and Mrs E. Fryett. a very full programme was given. This was as follows, juniors, three songs; recitations (Standard two), Janice Ferry, Peter Fryett, Bruce Allan and Margaret Wade; play by Primers, “The Empty House”; play by Standard one, “Red Riding Hood”; recitations by Primers, Graeme Ormsby, Carolyn Finn, Vivienne Walton, Pamela and Jocelyn Mace; Stardard one and two, choral speaking poems; carols by all juniors. Senior items included a piano duet, Heather-Bell and Rosemary McGregor; piano solo, Margaret Ward; chorus songs; verse speaking, seniors; Highland Fling, Rosemary McGregor, Nola Kerr, Ngaire Petersen, Mary Jensen and Lorraine Denyer; play, “The obstructive Hat ” by seniors; carols, all seniors. A Puppet Show by Miss Wilton ("The old woman and her peg” and “Red Riding Hood”) was received enthusiastically. Following the appearance of Santa Claus about sixty children of pre school age were presented with toys off a beautifully decorated Christmas tree.
The chairman of the School Committee, Mr Geraghty, presented Mrs Fryett with a gift in appreciation of the work she had done in making toys for the Christmas tree. Mr C. C. Wade also received a presentation in recognition of six years service as secretary of the School Committee. Bouquets were presented to Mrs Melville (music teacher) and the teachers Misses Tudchope and Jones by Reg Walton, Lorna Walton and Nola Kerr. A presentation on behalf of the pupils was made to the teachers by David Allan and Lorraine Denyer. A dance was held later with Mr J. L. Geraghty as master of ceremonies. Music was supplied by Mr Brockway (piano accordian) and Mesdames B. Watson and D. McGregor (piano).
