The Tauranga Defence Rifle Club fired a teams’ shoot on Saturday agamst the Tauranga Gun Club The event was held over the 20(1 yards and 300 yards ranges a sweepstake shoot was fired in con junction with the contest.
Conditions were favourable and high scores were registered. A feature of the shoot was a possible at the 300 yard range registered by L. H. Forde. Shooting with deliberation he fired 10 consecutive bullseyes to make the possible and compiled 98 points (aggregate) out of 100 possible. Forde’s possible is all the more meritorious in view of the fact that the club is now using the Bisley target marking which gives a seveninch bull at 300 yards. He is to compete in the South Island Championship at Invercargill. Previous Possibles
The following record of possibles scored since the year 1937 is of interest: November 6, 1937, C. J Kiddie 50 (500 yds.) 45 (600 yds.) aggregate, 95; January 15, 1938. r! S. Benjamin 50 (200 yds.), 49 (300 yds.), aggregate 99; February 19 1938, C. J. Kiddie 50 (200 yds.), 50 (300 yds.), aggregate 100. Shooting on form, H. A. Oliver with an aggregate of 94, the limit required, added another silver spoon to his collection. W. McLeod also qualified for a silver spoon with an aggregate of 91 points. The following have been silver snoon winners: A. W. Warren, F. F. Harpham, L. H. Forde, H. W. Harpham, R. S. Beniamin, P. M. Warren H. A. Oliver, W. McLeod. The sweepstake shoot, fired in conjunction with the Gun Club match, was won bv, W. McLeod at 200 yds. and L. H. Forde at 300 yds. Competition will recommence on January 15 for the Floyd Memorial Championship Belt (B series) on the 500 yd and 600 yd ranges. The shoot by riflemen on Saturday resulted as follows: —
The contest between the rifle and gun clubs consisted of a four-man team shoot, the first round being fired at the gun club’s site. The second round was fired at the rifle range over Ihe 200 yd and 300 vd ranges—lo shots at each range—the team with the highest aggregate over both shoots to be the winner. The match resulted in a win for the Tauranga Defence Rifle Club with an aggregate lead of 48 points. Results Of Shoots

Fprde for the highest aggregate on handicap, fired over the Flovd Memorial Championship Belt series. Conditions are the same as those governing belt shoots, with the exception that the shoot on the 200 vd range will count.
