Approval To Plans For New Wharf At The Mount Awaited

It is first necessary, however that the plans should be approved by the Marine Department, and the ' consent of the Governor-General is A quired before work can commence The plans were submitted to the department in October, 1947, jj ut so far its approval has not been received by the board. Once the plans have been approved by tiro department it will then bo necessary for the board to obtain a permit from the Building Controller to authorise the construction of the jetty. There have been far-reaching developments embracing the 'Tauranga port since the plans were approved by the board. The move to develop the port for the export of timber may mean it will be necessary for the board to revise its plans for the Salisbury Avenue Wharf to provide a structure that can accommodate coastal vessels if the main port is to be situated on the Tauranga side of the harbour.

The Secretary (Mr W. j. Walker) told a representative of the Hay of Plenty Times that the board realised the urgent nature of the proposal and was endeavouring to obtain the approval of the department to the plans, and also to obtain the necessary steel supplies from Australia.
