BURIAL WITHOUT PERMIT
UNDERTAKER FINED AT HAMILTON ,
(P.A.) Hamilton, April 22. ■ A charge of carrying out a burial without the required medical' certificate was preferred against Eric George Scrimshaw, undertaker, before Mr S. L. Paterson, S.M., in Hamilton today. Mr Tompkins appeared for Scrimshaw, who pleaded guilty. Sergeant Howes said the burial had been carried out on January 29. Scrimshaw later obtained a certificate, which the doctor had dated January 30. Defendant had previously been warned about similar cases.
Mr Tompkins said the offence had occurred because January 29 was a holiday. Defendant had arranged for a certificate, but had not received it. "It is difficult to tell relatives that the funeral will have to be postponed because the doctor cannot be reached." said Mr Tompkins. "Some of them might have come a long way." Defendant was convicted, and fined 10s.
