The Taurangja Gladiolus Society held its first exhibition on Friday last, and it proved a great success and an encouragement to those who promoted it. The quality and variety of the blooms were a . surprise to many. Despite the unfavourable season which prevented many growers from having blooms ready for display, the benches were well filled in most classes. Much very favourable comment was heard, visitors to the exhibition being surprised that blooms of such outstanding quality were locally grown. The award for the best bloom in the show was won by Mrs W. R. Storey, with a Red Lory. Miss Kayle, of Katikati, acted as judge, the following being the awards:

Three varieties, Mrs Cullen 1 and 2; pink, Rev. A. A. Bensley, 1 and 2; red, Mrs Storey 1, Mr E. Ireland 2; scarlet or flame, Rev. A. A. Bensley 1, Mrs Cullen 2; white or cream, Mr R. Crawford 1, Rev. A. A. Bensley 2; yellow, Mr Ireland 1, Mrs Shaw 2; blue or purple, Rev. A. A. Bensley 1 and 2; smoky, Rev. A. A. Bensley 1, Mr Bird 2; any other colour, Mrs Storey 1, Mrs Cullen 2; one variety, decorative type, Mrs Shaw 1, Rev. A. A. Bensley 2; three blooms Primuninas, Mrs Pitt Butts 1 and 2.

In the decorative section, Mrs Burnett gained first with a bowl of Mr Ireland’s splendid blooms and Mrs Bensley was second.
