LIFE SAVING
MOUNT MAUNGANUI CLUB ANNUAL MEETING HELD (From Our Correspondent) The annual meeting - of the Mount Maunganui Surf Life Saving Club was held in Mr Miller’s rooms on Wednesday evening and was well attended. Several apologies for unavoidable absence were received, including one from the patroness, Mrs Mellish, who forwarded a donation of £5.
The president, Mr Woodcraft, presented his report, which stated that, owing to war conditions, most of the activities of the club had been suspended and the raising of funds for a suitable building had also been deferred. However, a team had been kept in training under the club captain, Mr T. Magee, and the club’s building fund had materially benefited through the sale of a section which had been donated to the club by Mr Colin McNaughton. The necessity for providing a building in which the life-saving teams could train under suitable conditions was stressed by several members. In this connection a request was received from the Tauranga branch of the St. John Ambulance asking for accommodation at weekends during the summer season.
A general discussion followed, and it was eventually decided that the ■incoming committee obtain full particulars, including estimate of cost, of a building which would house the surf club and the St. John Ambulance, the committee to report to a general meeting early in the new year.
The election of officers resulted as follows: —Patroness, Mrs Hellish; president, Mr J. Mitchell; vice-presi-dents: Dr. Stenhouse, Messrs C. P. C. McNaughton, C. Woodcraft, F. Jennings; secretary, Mr R. Fergusson; treasurer, Mr C. Hutton; auditor, Mr P. H. Roche; committee: Messrs J. Sycamore, C. Woodcraft, G. Seed, W. Tuck and C. Miller; ladies committee: Mesdames Morgan, A. Wells, and Sutcliffe, with power to add.
