RECIPROCAL LEND-LEASE SUPPLIES FOR AMERICANS Washington, Jan. 24. The supplying of the American forces overseas under the lend-lease administration has been commented tipon by the Lend-Lease Administrator, Mr Harry Hopkins. He said it would have required 1,000,000 tons of shipping to supply the American forces, if they were not being maintained by Britain, Australia and New Zealand.
Britain had supplied two-thirds of the shipping for the transport of the American forces, he stated, and Britain had also supplied 160 Spitfires. One United States division had been entirely equipped with British 25poundev .guns. Barrage balloons, machine tools and other equipment were also supplied. Mr Hopkins added that the United States was shipping practically no food for its force's in the Pacific area, as Australia and New Zealand were providing supplies.
