EFFICIENCY PRAISED U-Boat Commander's Story Gruelling Experience London, Oct .16. A German U-boat commander, speaking on the Nazi radio, has raid a tribute to the efficiency of our naval protection of convoys in the North Atlantic. lie said that bis vessel came upon a large convoy but the naval escort of destroyers and corvettes was too strong and it was hopeless to try to attack and get through the defensive screen. Depth charges were rained down on bis submarine which leaked badly but they were able to stop the inrush of water and succeeded in reaching their base.
