In Luxembourg. 25 people have been shot by the Germans and hundreds deported. They included postmasters and teachers.

The German demand for French workers is being backed up strongly by Vichy radio. Out of the 150,000 demanded only one fifth have been delivered.

Laval is now caught between the Nazis and French public revulsion. A register of manpower is being compiled in France and all men between the ages of IS and 50, and who are not employed for at least 30 hours a week, must register. This is the German plan and it has been accepted by Vichy. The Vichy authorities are then to select men from among those registered to go to Germany.

Vichy states that it is only recommended that those liable to register should do so but they know well the consequences should they fail to do
