BRITAIN’S POLITICAL MACHINERY
Sir, —I was greafly interested in your article regarding the above, and I would ask why Mr Shaw, who is so very fond of Soviet rule .(or in other words Communism), does not pack his bundle and go and live in Russia. I have the greatest admiration for the Russians and their army, which I regard as the world s finest, but Sovietism is not wanted here, although we do seem to be getting a great deal of it. That reminds one that the late Hon. C. E. Macmillan said it was Shaw and a woman called Thorndyke. who brought Communism here first in reality.
We all deplore the state of our parliaments and there are still some people who wonder why a change of party brings no change of policy. Well, it is the party system that is the trouble all the time plus orthodox finance. What is wanted is the Cabinet land {president elected by the House of Commons and controlled by it. What is now called democracy is a glorified dictatorship controlled by the unseen hand. Did not Adam Wishaupt say, “frprri liberalism to radicalism and from radicalism to communism”? etc. Mr Shaw says that he does not deal in flapdoodle. Well, that appears to be the only thing he does deal in.—l am, etc. H. C. BARKER.
