PRISONERS CHAINED

BRITAIN'S ACTION

Statement By Churchill

Warning To Germany

London. Oct. 13

Air Churchill has made a statement in tlie House of Commons concerning the chaining of British pris-

oners of war

He referred to this matter in his speech at Edinburgh and said there that if we showed any weakness the enemy would probably intensify his attacks on our men.

He had invited the Swiss Government, said Air Churchill, to lay our solemn protest before Germany and to urge them to desist in their actions. If no notice was taken our protection to German prisoners of war in our hands would be withdrawn.

The Prime Minister said that it might, in some circumstances, be necessary to tie up prisoners on the field of battle but in applying this treatment to men who were helpless

in their hands the Germans were violating regulation two of the Geneva Convention. They were attempting to use our men as hostages.
