LIBERTY IN DANGER
SPEECH BY ROOSEVELT Faith In Victory Columbus Day Celebrations London, Oct. 12. To-day is Columbus Day in England and the United States. President Roosevelt said that it was 250 years since Christopher Columbus first saw the western world where men could make new beginnings. There came to America, said the President, people who sought liberty, democracy and a fuller life. It had been a bold and successful experiment. Now liberty was in danger in the greatest war the world had ever known. This war was to determine whether the march of progress was to proceed. A United States victory would be a United Nations victory and victory for enslaved peoples everywhere, concluded Mr Roosevelt.
