ASHER BROTHERS

At New Year, there was a re-union in Auckland of five Asher brothers, all of whom originally came from Tauranga. They were Ernie, George and Albert (Opae), of Auckland, Jack of Tokaanu and Tom of Wellington. Another brother, Mr Henry Asher of Te Puke had aoped to be up for the re-union but was prevented by illness. The Asher boys were best known in the football world, all being early Bay of Plenty Rugby representatives. Later they became Rugby League stalwarts.
