POLAND'S LEADER ESCAPES

Marshal Smigly-Rydz, former leader of Poland's army, has escaped from the custody of Rumanian police it is reported from Bucharest. The Gestapo and the police have closed ports in their hunt for him. Officially, it is stated that Smigly-Rydz simply ran away from the monastery village of Tasmana in the Carpathian foothills, where he had been under house arrest.
