Ka- ; kau (Tauranga). I Emergencies—Tapsell, Hughes and P. The proceeds from ! the match will go in aid of the local ■ St. John Ambulance Brigade who do ■ excellent work for football in this district. The team-is:— I Full-back: j Dave Borell; Three-quarters; George Hart, J. Cooney, Arthur Bullock-Douglas; Five-eighths; 1 Snowy Svensou and Archie Strang; j Half-back: ( Snodgrass; • Forwards: Ike Taugitu, C. Haua, W. Mansel, Moorhead, Pye Stevens, J. Haxdey, C. Cameron, K. Page. i Emergencies.—- Applications will | be accepted. The individual members of the team have been in solid training for some time and the local reps will be given an opportunity of playing in j good company. Most of the players j need very little introduction but it j will be noticed that there are four I ex-All Black in the team, viz, George Hart, Arthur Bullock - Douglas, Snowy Svenson and Archie Strang. All the other players have represented various provinces throughout the Dominion in recent years. The selector of this team however reserves the right to replace any member who does not make the grade in training and he also reserves the right to replace any player if another comes forward with better qualifications and claims a place.

I As this challenge is made through the medium of the local press any acceptance will need to be through the same medium. For some time old lovers of the game in Tauranga have feared that the pristine glory of football in this place has faded like the pearls of morning dew, never to return again. To attempt to arouse interest in the game this season somehow after the set back at Matata, some players of reputation have stated their willingness, vested with jersey, shorts and sprigged boots, to show the lads of this rather effeminate age how if should be done. In consequence such a challenge as above is given. The challenge itself is comprehensive in its scope. It is not necessarily confined to those who now represent the town, but is freely given to any team that likes to take up the gauntlet of defiance. We say the action is a laudable one. The matter has been freely discussed for some time and there is just a little feeling that these champions of the cause of better Rugby will have the thrown gauntlet snatched as soon as cast. We see no good reason for feeling in the matter but as we go to press we are credibly informed that to-morrow will bring a spirited reply, but to-morrow is another da ALL BLACKS DEFEAT NEWCASTLE
