Slight Frost. A message from Cambridge on Saturday states that a slight frost, the first since last winter, was experienced there on that morning. Whakatane also reports that a light frost was experienced there on Friday night. Late maize planted in the Paroa and Poroporo districts were affected, but the frost was not sufficient to damage the crops. The Royal Mint. Nearly 17,000,000 coins, worth about £375,000 wore made by the Royal Mint last year. Hero are the numbers of the various ' denominations minted; 2,500,000 florins, £ 250,000; 200,000 shillings, £lO,000; 1.800,000 sixpences, £ 45,000; 3,000,000 threepences, £ 45,000; 4,320,000 pennies, £ 8000. The Mint has been simply and steadily coining this money for the greater part of the year, but work was accelerated some time ago for the Christmas rush. The banks called for coin in large quantities to keep the bustling shopkeepers supplied with change. The deputy-master of the Mint said that there were orders for £ 35,000' worth of shillings, but the staff could not complete them.
