Whippet Racing. Mr Ken Rennie has presented a Silver Cup for the winner of the Open Hurdles in the Whippet races to be held on Show Day. Hare well to Veteran Bowler. A pleasant lEttle function took place on the Domain bowling green during the tea adjournment on Saturday afternoon, when members of the Club presented Mr J. Hawke with a case of pipes. During his comparatively short membership with the Club, Mr Hawke has made himself extremely popular with all the members, and the general regret felt at his departure was well expressed by Mr E. R. Sinclair, the spinor Vice-President, in making the presenliition. Mr Hawke jpaveg here on Wednesday to reside with his son at Waipawa. The Dog- Difficulty. Yesterday one cyclist was seen carrying his dog in a basket On the ‘bike,’ while another dog owner had his dog caught with the crook of his walking-stick through the collar. So why all the fuss when it is so easy? .Shark in Hie Harbour. A large shark quite 10 feet long was seen cruising in the warm w r ater close in to the Yacht and Power-Boat Club shed this morning. An effort to catch the scavenger was made, but after it had cruised around for some time it made off to the deeper water. The shark was accompanied by a pilot fish which w r as swimming close alongside the body of the big fish. Picnic at Omokoroa. The local Branch of the South African War Veterans held their annual picnic at Omokoroa yesterday. After lunch on the beach a number of the veterans and friends were taken to the fishing grounds where some good catches were made. The catch for the day was 250 schnapper with a few kahawai and terakihi.
