MINIATURE GOLF COURSE

Sir, —As there seems to be considerable activity on the part of a few residents to bring about the above scheme, I absolutely refute the statement that a “fair proportion of the electors of the Borough are in favour of another piece of our valuable reserves being handed over to a few, who have no doubt other reasons than golf in making such a “request.” Owing to the tenacity of a few of our councillors, it is to be hoped' that that portion of the Domain adjoining the bowling green will be saved for those who do not desire or are unable to take part in active recreation, arid it is to be hoped that the Council wilj not allow one square yard more of public property to be handed to specific bodies, sports or otherwise. In the Cliff reserve we have the finest asset of any seaside resort in New Zealand, and as the golf enthusiasts have approximately 300 acres for their exclusive, use within easy access, surely that should suffice. Should the golf players want a course nearer their back door than Gate Pa, perhaps they could acquire the swamp which the Borough Council are contemplating to add to our liabilities. But the Borough interests would be better served by improving what we have already got than by entering into the Land and Estate business. Feeling sure that very strong opposition will be made to any further encroachment on our reserves and thanking you. “ELECTOR.”
