BRITAIN’S IMPORTS.
LARGE QUANTITIES FROM RUSSIA. The British annual trade returns for 1930. which were only published recently, show how importations by Britaiu-from Russia have been prejudicial to the trade of the overseas Dominions of Britain. In 192 G Britain bought 4 7.50.0,000 cwt. of wheat from within the Empire, and 48,500,OOOcwt. from foreign sources. Russia sent no wheat to Britain in 1929, but in 1930 the Soviet Government was the chief supplier of that cereal. f In 192 G Canada received for wheat sent to Britain £23,000,000. In 1930 it had dropped to £11,000,000, and in 1931 to £7,500,000.
In the same way there have also been large importations of timber from Russia, although there are ample supplies available in British Columbia..
