MOVE FOR AN EMBARGO. Sydney, March 2!). At the New South Wales Oyster Trade Conference to-day, a move was made to secure an embargo against the importation of New Zealand oysters, which at present are flooding the Melbourne markets at prices with which New South Wales oystermen cannot, compete.
The annual report pointed out that while there is an embargo against New South Wales oysters entering the New Zealand market, as a. consequence of which many local oyster growers have forsaken their leases and gone on the dole, New Zealand oysters are swamping the Victorian market.
