SEARCH FOR GOLD.

ASSISTING PROSPECTORS. Notification has been received by two Te Aroha applicants to the Department of Mines for assistance to prospect for gold in the district that they have been duly enrolled and included in the relief scheme which was recently outlined by the Minister when he last visited Te Aroha (says the Te Aroha News). The coramunilation stated that work should be started as soon as the men were eligible, and also that owing to the uncertainty of the money available that it had only been possible to authorise two men to proceed for four weeks. At the end of that time the work would be inspected by the supervisor and if the area was sufficiently promising the authority would be extended for a further perid. By inclusion in the scheme for the encouraging of prospecting each man is entitled to 30s per week if manned and 15s if single. A diary must be kept of the work done and the area covered and this must be exhibted when the subsidy is collected from the certifying officer.
