DAIRY PRODUCTS.
MARKETING IN BRITAIN. New Plymouth, March 28. The opinion that the outlook for New Zealand dairy produce in Britain was never brighter than it is today was expressed by Mr A. B. Gibson, of Nottingham, head of a large provincial dairy produce business, while on a visit to New Plymouth. “Five years ago,” he said, “65 per cent, of the produce my firm handled was foreign. To-day, 65 per cent of it is Empire produce. There is the kindliest feeling among traders toward New Zealand and her products, but my impression is that all commodities will be upon a lower basis than they have been. High prices were inevitable as an aftermath of the war and the cost of living will not again be what it was.”
Mr Gibson said New Zealand dairying products held a high place in Britain among traders and consumers alike. The attempt to introduce a lower grade of cheese a few years ago had been deplored and the modification of producing Cheddar cheese was not favourably received. It was to be hoped that quality would be the first and last consideration, in the manufacture of dairy produets for Britain.
