QUEEN CARNIVAL.

< TTIZENS 1 CANDIDATE. The weekly meeting of the Citizens’ committee was held in Mr B. C. Robbins’ office last night. Reports were received from the respective workers. All the events recently held were successful and proved satisfactory from a financial point of view. This being the last week of the Carnival Committee’s effort's, it was decided to have as full a programme as possible, and the following events were decided on; —■ To-night, Mrs Lewis holds a bridge and 500 card party in the Parish Hall. Supper will be provided. The committee will assist, and help to make the evening a success. A charge for admission will be made, and a very enjoyable evening should be the result.

Thursday night, April 10, a hardup dance will be held in the Town Hall from 8 o’clock to midnight. Patrons arc asked to come in hard-up or fancy dress. Supper will be provided. A prize will be awarded to the gentleman and lady who arc attired in the most hard-up dress. This event will be advertised and it is expected that the people of Tauranga will come and fill the hall.

Friday.—The committee arc holdinn merriment on the Strand from 7.30 to t0..?0 p.m. The Tauranga Municipal Band are asked to provide a musical programme, and dancing will be held on the street. There will be singing and general amusement. The Strand will be decorated with coloured electric lights and merriment for all will be the order of the night. The public are asked tu participate in the fun. Collections will be taken up and those who have not donated arc asked to do so liberally. Saturday.—The ladies’ committee will have a stall on the Strand, where goods of all description will be on sale, and (his committee is looking forward to a huge success. The■ efforts' of all committees will cease at q p.m. on Saturday and it is the aim of: the committee to place the Citizens' flag mast-loch and to' see the Citizens’ candidate crowned Queen. COUNTRY QUEEN.

A “Paddy’s Market” will be held on the Town on Saturday next. Produce of all kinds will be on sale and the Country Queen’s committee arc making a special effort to ensure victory for their candidate •

In response to numerous requests the young ladies associated with the Country Queen’s candidature have decided to hold a masquerade hard-up dance in the Hairini Hall on Friday evening next. Already keen interest is being taken, in the function and the preparations are well in hand. The floor will be specially prepared and good music provided. Patrons are assured of a very enjoyaHle evening. Buses will run from torvn and will carry passengers free of charge, the first bus leaving Hartley’s corner at 7.45. No doubt there will be a strong rally for the final function prior to the closing date of the carnival.

There was a good attendance at the Hairini Hall last night when a very enjoyable dance was held in aid of the Country Queen.
