Victoria Crosses Won at
Gallipoli
London, October 1. The Victoria Cross has been awarded I to Captain Hansen, of the Sixth. Lincolnslnres. On August 9tb,* at Yilghin Burnu, Gallipolf, the Lircolnshires were forced to retire, leaving their wounded, owing to iatense heat and burning scrub. Captain Hansen. and three or four volunteers dashed several times over four hundred yards of open ground, under terrific fire, and rescued six wounded men from inevitable death from burning. The Victoria Cross was also awarded to Private Potts, of the Berkshire Yeomanry. A lthough he was severely wounded at Hill 70 he remained forty eight hours under Turkish trenches^ will a wounded private who was unable to move. Finally, using a shovel as a sledge, he dragged his comrade for a distance of six hundred yards to the British line?, though the Turks were firing.
