EMPLOYMENT OF RETURNED SOLDIERS.
At the meeting of the Tauranga Branch of the JSJ.Z. Farmers' Union on Saturday the following letter from the Union's Dominion Secretary regarding the employment of returned soldiers:—
"The Government has recently established a nuw department—The Discharged Soldiers' Information Department—which is intended to assist returned soldiers to find employment. Many of these might be unfitted to return to their former work, while quite fit to do some other work. The Minister (Hon. A. L. Herdman) has communicated with Sir James G. Wilson, Dominion President, asking wrether the Farmers' Union can give' any assistance to the Department in this direction. Sir James has replied stating that he thinks the Minister may rely on the Union doing anything that is'possible to help such a desirable object. Sir James has asked m« to communicate with the branches of the Union and inquire if there ara any members of your branch, or farmers in your neighbourhood who can offer employmnt of any kind. If so, would you kindly communicate with me, or diiect to the Officer-in-charge, Discharged Soldiers' Information Department, Aitken Street, Wellington. It possible please state nature of work, whether temporary or permaneDt, and the remuneration."
