Webb Wins Easily.

The weather was untavourable for the Webb-Hannan race till an hour before tne start, though the river was as smooth as a mill pond. Webb was favourite,, fair odds being laid. Both men reached the starting point at 12.15, looking fit. Hannan won the toss «\nd chose the inside position on the left. The contestants got away on even terms, Hannan striking 44 in the first minute and Webb 4(L ,The latter soon settled down with a long sweeping stroke, his clean work being in marked contrast to Hannan's. Neither man had any advantage for the first two minutes' rowing.' Then Webb drew away, increasing his lead to three lengths at the mile post, where he was rowing 25 to Hannan's 27. At the half-mile he was a further good six lengths ahead rowing 24* Two milepeg was reached in ll.mins 20. sees Webb drew further away, rowing well within himself, Hannan being 15 seconds behind. From this out the race was a procession, Webb rowing comfortably, holding his opponent easily, and finishing about fifteen lengths to the good in 19 minutes 15 4-5 seconds. Hannan rowed pluckily to the end, which he reached in 19 minutes 55 seconds.
