JEW-BAITING- IN RUSSIA.
<». — The persecution of Jews who are Lutherans is owing to fanaticism on the part of M. Jobiedeonostzeff (head of the Holy Synod). The Russian Government denies that the Rothschilds have cancelled the contract for the new loan. The expulsion of Jews from Mosoow is suspended. The ' Nova Vremya,' the semi-official journal, admits that the Rothschilds have abandoned their contract for the Russian loan, and states that the step «was taken because the Czar rejected their demands regarding the expulsion of Jews from Russia. The ' Jewish Chronicle ' denies that Baron Hirsch is yet committed to any gigantic scheme for the emigration of expelled Russian Jews, but at present is only awaiting inquiries, with a view of ascertaining if the Argentine Republic is a suitable place for his compatriots.
