MILTON BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The usual fortnightly meeting was held on Wednesday evening, his Worship the Mayor in the chair. The following Councillors were also present : — Messrs Gordon, Stewart, 'Dyer, Taylor, and M'Laren. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. Messrs A vera and Watson, Engineers, Dunedin, forwarded a circular offering their services for any engineering work in the matter of bridges, &c. On the motion of Cr Gordon, seconded by Cr Stewart, the circular was received. The following accounts were passed for payment :— J. E. Brown, commission and specifications, £15 13s ; Reeves and Co., drain pipes, 17s ; Bruce Herald, advertising, £5 14s 3d and £9 17s 6d. An account of ,£65 ls, being balance due to Mr J. Tough on contract for metal, was also passed, subject to approval of Works Committee. A circular from the Dunedin Committee of the Melbourne Exhibition, asking the co-opera-tion of the Council, and the consideration of which had been held over, was placed on the table, the Mayor remarking that the Bruce County Council had resolved to pay expenses for forwarding exhibits from the County. On the motion of Cr Stewart, seconded by Cr M'Laren, the circular was received. Cr Gordon mentioned that Moore-street, from Powley's upwards, required about 20 yards of metal to make it passable. He would move — " That the present contractor be requested to supply the quantity named at his contract price, and deposit the same a3 directed by the mover," Seconded by Cr Stewart, and carried. Cr Gordon also drew attention to the bad state of the water channel between the Pottery and Elderlee-street, the water in which had no outlet for the want of cleaning out the course, The Mayor stated that the dayman was aware of this and had instructions to do the necessary work. This closed the business of the meeting.
