THE EDUCATION BOARD.

* The monthly meeting of the Education Board was held yesterday ; present :— Messrs D, Rid (in the Chair), Fulton, Clark, Begg, Fraer, Green, Elder. INCH CLUTHA. A deputation of landowners and settlers at ißch Clutha, consisbing of Messrs W. Barron, Byers, M'Donald, and Bell, waibed on the Board to ask a reconsideration ef its determi- > afcion to remove the school from Inch Clnbha. The deputation had been app^iut d by a public meeting held on the 24 -h mat. It was seated that the difference between the sum required by Mr M'Kissoch for his site and the sum offered by the Board for it would be made up by bhe settlers, and that therefore there could be no object in taking away a school thab had been in existence fcr over twenty- one years. Messrs G. Inglis and A. Petrie presented a counter petifciou from ivs, dents at Stirling asking that the B^ard remove the school there a> determined. There were now no less than ninety- two children within a radius of two miles, or a much lirger number thau at Inch Clutha. Mr Anderson bal also offered an ex cellent site free of charge to the Board. Mr Birrou said Inch Clutha did not object to a school at Stirling, bub they did object to their own old established school being takeu away. Mr Eeid remarked that two members of the Board had reported in favour of Inch Clutha, bub this wan rather owing to a feeling of sympathy with bhe settlers' -misfortunes o.siug to the late floods. His own opinion was that Stirling was the besb place for the school, it being a rising districb, and the population increasing rapidly. This would not, however, prevent Inch Clubha having a school of its own when there were tufticient children and the Board had money enough to justify the establishment of one. The Board unanimously decided to remove the school to Stirling. KUKI BCSH. The building would do for a teacher's residence also, lt had been understood that children from the north side of the river should be taken across the river free and in a safe manner to attend the Balclutha school, but this was not done. — The Board agreed' to grant the request.
