BALCLUTHA.

Weusesday, 'ilssT March. (Before Mr E. H. Carew, R.M.) The above Court was held at the Courthouse Thomas Patersou, Town Clerk, Messrs A. B. Henderson and J. C. Young, Valuators, appeared in support of the Valuation Roll. His Worship, after examining the Roll, called the Valuators before him, and asked them if they had been supplied with a copy of the Rating Act. On their admitting that they had, he asked them if they could read it, and then if they could write. Both questions being answered in the affirmative, his Worship pointed out that the Roll was not according to. the form given in the Act. After consideration, his Worship said he had no power to adjourn the Court, but stated that if the Town Clerk would inform him the next Court day what Valuators the Corporation would wish appointed, he would appoint them to prepare a fresh valuation, and fix another day for the Assessment Court to sit. Mr W. A. Mosley came forward and applied for expenses, as he had attended the Court in support of an objection lodged by him against his assessment. Upon referring to the objection his Worship stated that Mr Mosley objected on the ground of his assessment being too high, and no expenses could therefore be allowed him. Had his objection been that the form of the Roll was bad, expenses would have been allowed. He further stated, for Mr Mosley's information, that bis objection was also informal.
