Our Drink Bill.
INTERESTING COMPARISONS. (PER PRESS ASSOCIATION.) Dunedin, March 21. The Rev E. Walker has taken oat the drink bill of the colony for 1902. There was a gradual increase in the consumption for the previous five years from £2 198 Bsd per head of the population in 1896 to L 3 10s 3£d m 1901, or la 4d per head for the quinquennium. Last year this increase was not continued, the amount being L 3 10s 3£d, representing a decrease of a half-penny. The gross expenditure for 1901 was L 2,922,982, and for 1902 L 2,953,298, an increase of L 30.3 16. I The consumption of spirits was 602,022 gallons, which, at L 2 per gallon, gives LI 8s Sd per head; wine**, 126,440 gallons, or 6s per head; imported beer, 201,520 gallons, or Is o£d per head ; colonial beer, 7,790,600 gallons, or XI 14s 2d per bead.
