"SNOOPERS" WORK
DEPRESSION DAYS RECALLED
MORE HEARD OF THE GESTAPO Parliamentary Reporter. WELLINGTON, this day. More about the Gestapo, with which Mr. A. S. Sutherland (Nat., Hauraki) regaled the House of Representatives on Wednesday night, was heard in the House yesterday afternoon, the subject being reintroduced by Mr. P. Carr (Govt., Auckland West). Mr. Carr said he could remember the time under the National Government when snoopers were going into the homes of workers on relief to see whether they had a wireless or piano, and looked into their sheds to see whether they had a motorbike or a motor car. The -Gestapo was here long before the member for Hauraki saw him.
Mr. Sutherland: I saw him. It's the same fellow; he had a bit of age on.
Mr. Carr said, that that kind of thing had gone on under the National Government. That was the Gestapo and he supposed the member for Hauraki was driving them round then. ■ . \
