NEW MILK BOARDS

MACHINERY FOR ELECTIONS

P.A; WELLINGTON, Thursday * The milk board election regulations published to-night provide the necessary machinery for the election of members of metropolitan milk boards, which are now to be established in the main centres under the Milk Act. The regulations provide that each local authority forming part of a combined metropolitan milk district shall have nomination and voting powers in the election of a board, that each local authority shall have one vote for each 1000 or part thereof of the population, and that elections are to be held in the same years as municipal general elections are held and not less than three months after the municipal election. i

Special provision is made for the first elections for Auckland, Christchurch, Dunedin and Palmerston North, which will be held not later than August 14 this year. The Gazette contains orders-in-council defining these four districts, and other orders constitute the Wanganui, Whangarei, Hastings, Feilding and Dannevirke milk districts.

The Minister of Health, Mr. Nordmeyer, states that further orders covering other major consuming areas are in preparation and will shortly be submitted for the assent of the Governor-General-in-Council.
