AWARDS FOR BRAVERY

FIRST N.Z.E.F. GEORGE MEDAL

P.A. WELLINGTON, Thursday. Advice of 25 awards to members of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force has been, received by the Minister of Defence, Mr. Jones. They include the George Medal, which in the military services is confined to acts of great bravery for which purely military honours are not normally granted. Details of the act of bravery which earned the George Medal for Corporal Herring are not yet known in New Zealand. He is the first member of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force to receive this medal.
