AUCKLAND GAS SUPPLY
COAL CARGO ARRIVES
Immediate improvement in the Auckland gas supply is expected, as the steamer, Kiwitea, with 1600 tons of coal from the" west Coast, has reached Auckland.
Gas for household use was available from 10 o'clock this morning at full pressure. The pressure was reduced at 1.30 p.m., but it will be restored at 4.30 p.m., with the indication that it would not be again reduced until 1.30 p.m. to-morrow. It is intended then to review the position, but the prospect is that a normal supply will be maintained. The manager of the company, Mr. R. Worley, said this morning that it is likely that there will be a restricted gas service for industry from Monday. The company asks that from the commencement industries should keep their daily consumption down to 50 per cent of their normal de m? Worley said that the difficult situation, which arose on Thursday last, was brought about by a combination of circumstances — cola weather, inferior coal, and an abnormal industrial demand. He addled that it was apparent that many industrial users had. attempted to recover ground lost during the past three weeks, and had put an unrea--1 sonable load on the system.
