SWANSON AIR FORCE CAMP
The wisdom and value of the muchdebated Swanson Air Force commando camp is at stake and explanation of the following issues is essential. (1) Due to wet conditions all training was cancelled from Thursday after duties, May 17, to Monday morning, May 21, and trainees and instructors granted leave. What improvements in climatic conditions can be expected in the next four months of rain in the Waitakere area? (2) Why it is necessary to use leaky, sickness-risk canvas tents when hundreds of pre-fabricated huts are in storage throughout the country? (3) Why inadequate small drying rooms with coal burning stoves are considered satisfactory to dry personal clothing and wet gear and equipment? Drying rooms are inadequate for 5 per cent of personnel, as the period of time to dry a woollen singlet was recently tested. by trainees and found to be approximately 48 hours. AIR FORCE TRAINEE.
